Now that you have all viewed the film at least once, it is time to let me know what you thought of it.
I would like you to make an entry that explains what elements of the film you enjoyed and why - was it the characters? Was it the storyline or the way it was revealed? Was it the music?
Please make specific references to scenes or events.

  2. Forrest Gumb i believe is a very good movie because of many things. First of all i like the actor Tom Hanks, he plays Forrest Gump very well. I also like the character Forrest Gump because he starts off as a young boy who has a problem called Autistic Savant, and you would think that if a boy who is autistic would not have done all of the things he had done, for example meeting the president of The United States of America a number of times, and he recieved the medal of honour. This is why i like the caharcter Forrest Gump because you will never expect what will he do next.

Also i like the whole story line and how the movie is narrated so it is telling you what happened. Also i like the sound track in the movie all of the songs show different parts of his life.

Also i like how the movie starts with the feather going down and i like it how it ends when the feather goes away. The feather shows a journey and the feather is like forrest Gump.

This is why i like this movie.

  3. forest gump is a great movie because of a combination of things.

the character forest is a delightful, courageous man. he is true to all his friends, no matter how they treat him. he never lies cheats or steals. he is always happy with the simple things, like running and mowing grass, unlike other characers in the film. without knowing it, he shapes everybody and the world around him.

the storyline is another aspect that is a memorablible part of the movie. it combines fiction with history, with forest edited into some famous scene's. vietnam war, speaking with john lennon, starting the watergate scandal, to name a few.

the music throughout is absolutely tops! it sets the scene and has a deeper meaning than just being good music. it is often figurative in meaning too.

it is also very humorous at times, as well as ironic.

  4. Although i've seen the film probably a zillion times,i enjoyed watching it. why? Forrest is a great character, he's like a chameleon- adapting to new events and situations, but ever so oblivious to the differences he makes e.g. dancing to hound dog with elvis, saving his fellow viet comrades etc. The minor characters are great too- i like the contrast between Jenny and Forrest; their relationship is interesting and bouncing back and forth. Bubba is funny- all that shrimp! Serg Dan has helped my perception of the negative effects of war- the fact that when he returned to the US, he was abandoned to live alone and didnt believe in a God. Hmm...the music is brilliant; reflects the events and emotions (sounds corny i know). I love music from the 60s :) Most importantly I like the fact that Gump is a character who believes/follows simple principles, that he isnt an 'ordinary' person..that he sees the simple things in life as the greatest pleasures- we should learn from him.

  5. what i like about the movie Forrest Gump is the music in the movie because it shows what type of music they listened to back then, also a smart thing was that every time music would come on in a particular scene the lyrics of the music would have some significance with the scene.

  7. Forrest Gump, in my personal opinion is not a movie I would identify as a great or good movie.

I do like the actor Tom Hanks, and believe his work is incredible, but definately not 'Forrest Gump'. Even though his acting is very good and he portrays a individual with Autism quite well I do not believe a person of such a mental status would be able to accomplish all of the things 'Forrest' does in this movie.

Personally I was never a fan of a fictional character in a non-fictional world. However I see arguments that represent this movie as something 'great' and 'wonderful'

  8. The Movie Forrest Gump (being the first time I watched it) was an exciting experience. The movie had a great story line and used many different motifs to express different views on life. For example, at the beginning of the movie the feather represents Forrest Gump’s journey throughout the movie. In articulating this, it creates a more realistic viewing experience, enables the audience to follow Forrest journey throughout the 1950’s-80s and portrays important events in America’s history such as the Vietnam War.
The Main reason for my enjoyment was seen throughout the characters. Forrest Gump (having the disorder Autistic savant) and an IQ of 75 portrays to the audience of how slow he is. As the movie progresses Forrest becomes successful in all aspects of life. For example, he receives a degree at schooling which means he has surprised the audience. Another character which made the movie interesting was Bubba. When we first meet him the audience can relate to him, which makes the viewers fall in love with him. This character brings joy to the set and makes the film humorous “There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it”
Throughout the movie these are the main reasons (as stated above) which made the movie a success. I believe this is the same reason why I enjoyed the move.
    Rating: * * * * stars

  10. Forrest gump really is a great movie....

I thought that the movie was very clever, because of how all the major evets in that time period involved Forrest. For example: Meeting Presidents, vietnam war, different protests, national ping pong, surviving tidal wave, making the saying ''Shit happens'' and the smiley face shirt, and investing into apple.

The use of music was great and helped set the scene. It created certain messages and helped portray a better message to the audience. Some great artists include: The Doors, Elvis Presley, Beach boys, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Simon & Garfunkle, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Willie Nelson

The acting was excellent especially Tom Hanks as Forrest.

All in all it is a great movie. I would recommend watching it.

  11. forrest gump is a great movie. i have many reasons to back up my reason. the first thing is that Tom Hanks played forrest gump very well. he is true to all his friends. he never lies or dose anything behind there backs with him hurting them. altthough he is not an intelligent man he is still aware of all his surroundings. he is always happyu and doing things that he loves he is always thinking and talking about jenny who is the love of his life. Forrest ran for a while because it was something that he loved doing. and then he became world wide and everyone loved him.

there were many historical scenes in the movie such as him being edited into scenes such as vietnam war, speaking with john lennon, starting the watergate scandal. there where other historical people such as elvis and jfk.

the music was mazing it showed the emotions and reflected on the scenes.

  12. Forrest gump was a great movie that portrayed different historical events through the life of forrest. Forrest was a boy who grew up with autistic savant. Through out the movie his mum gave him sayings that he could remember about life, he was always asked if he was st upid and he would say “my mumma says stupid is as stupid does” This was repeated through out the movie when ever he was called or asked if he stupid.

The movie started with a feather floating down, this feather portrayed his journey and how life isn't all set out that sometimes we are just floating around. The feather reaches the ground and then we see tom hanks who plays a great portrayal of forrest with his acting ability to make the audience understand Autistic Savant and what is invloved in this disorder.
Forrest is sitting at a bus stop and is waithing for a bus, we do not yet understand why he was there, from the narration and flash backs of forrest we unhderstand his life and the events that occurred. The story line is in order of the events and historical moments that forrest is remembering.

Forrest starts off as a boy that is different, he is always told by his mum that he isn't different but it is clear when he goes to start school. The braces on his legs convey forrest and that he is not like every one else. When forrest goes on the school bus it is clear that he doesnt get along with the other children, besides one, jenny who turns into his best friend and forrest's skills are seen through his ability to run.

  13. Forrest Gump was an amazing movie bringing forward a number of issues and events in the history of America, and Forrest Gump seems to apppear in all these significant events.
Tom Hanks does a great job of portraying Forrest Gump as a kind and loving person who does not always understand the situations he finds himself in.

  14. Glad to read that most of you really enjoyed the film and can recognise the significance of what happens to Forrest. We will be studying the film techniques in great detail so I will expect that then you will be able to comment on specific scenes and the techniques used by the director to shape meaning and convey that to the audience.

  15. i really enjoyed watching the movie forrest gump. it is the first time i have watched the whole movie form start to finis and i really enjoyed it.

i love how the movie shows forrests life from when he was a small child to when he was a grown man. i like how the movie portryes his triumphs and his down falls but yet he never seems to give up on what he wants. forrest was always so determind to make the person in charge of him happy. for example in the army forrest is asked what is your duty in the army and he replies with to do whatever you ask me to sir. i think this shows determination to succeed.

i loved tom hanks in the movie i think he is an amazing actor and know one could have done as good a job as he did.

i really enjoyed the whole movie..

  16. I really enjoyed this film. It was a journey that you didn’t want to finish.

The uses of characters in the film were used very well. From fictional to non-fictional characters, all played a major part in the film and in Gumps life. One character in particular that altered Gumps life was Jenny. She was cute at the start and all ("dear God, make me a bird, so I fly far, far, far away from here"), but after she got kicked out of school she went downhill and treated Gump terribly.

I also enjoyed the use of interrelating the American timeline into the movie and Gumps life. Not only was it enjoyable, but I also learnt a lot from the film. I also enjoyed seeing the relations with reality in the movie (i.e. Apple shares). I thought that was really smart and helped identify what year the movie was at the time.

In keeping with the storyline, the music was also a great factor. From the start to finish, the type of music vastly changed and represented the mood of the characters and the type of music that was popular at the time (i.e. Disco – Jenny doing coke).

The use of symbols was also used very well. For example, the feather used at the start and end of the film were used to portray how Gump sees life. Life can change in anyway at anytime.

  17. FOREST GUMP
One of the best movies of all time i think.
I like forest gump because of a number of combimations that just make it a feel good movie that will always make you laugh.
It is one of those movies that you can recite half a line to someone else and they can recite the rest.
These characteristics of the film come together so well through the thoughts and ideas of the characters. The way the film uses American history to guide Forest through his life. The way the music symbolizes the time period and theme of that stage in the movie. Etc.

Overall it is just a great movie that you can watch over and over again and still be interested in it.
